The conventional and established configuration of OSN flat membranes for industrial use is the spiral wound element (SWE). Spacer material and glue are integral parts of the SWE. For some application and feedstocks their compatibility is limited and affects the process performance or even impedes the industrial realization.
In such cases the glue-free BORSIG envelope-type module with the free-channel feed flow is a valuable alternative.
Our presentation briefly explains the structure of the envelope-type module and compares the characteristic features with the SWE.
